About The Recipe

This beef stir fry recipe is a Pakistani version, also known as Hyderabadi Fried (tala huwa) Gosht. The name “tala huwa gosht” means “fried meat,” which describes how this dish is prepared with simplicity, focusing on the beef’s natural taste.

This particular recipe comes from my neighbor, who is a true Hyderabadi. She learned it from her family, so it’s filled with tradition and authenticity. Recipes passed down through generations often have a special touch, and her cooking truly reflects that.

One of the important things she always says is that the key to a delicious dish is using tender meat and really focusing on the flavor instead of just relying on a bunch of spices. While many recipes throw in lots of different spices, this beef stir fry only uses a few main ones, which lets the true taste of the beef come through.

My Personal Take

While I’m not generally a huge meat eater, this beef stir fry is one of my favorites! Its straightforward flavors make it enjoyable even for someone like me. It’s comforting and satisfying without being too heavy.

Like many traditional recipes, there are lots of ways to make this dish. Each cook might add their twist, like including vegetables or swapping beef for chicken or lamb. However, the magic of this recipe lies in its simplicity. Too many changes can overshadow the authentic taste.

How To Make Beef Stir Fry

  1. Take some fresh, red beef and cut it into small cubes. Put the beef in a pressure cooker. Add ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Pour in 1.5 cups of warm water. Close the lid and cook it for 15 to 17 minutes after it starts to whistle.
  1. After the beef is cooked, carefully move it to a pan, keeping some of the liquid with the meat. Add oil in the pan and fry the beef until it looks brown and a bit crispy. This will typically take 3-5 minutes.
  1. When the beef is fried, add in some red chili sauce, black pepper, and lemon juice. If you want, you can add a smoky flavor using some coal smoke (this is optional).

Special Instructions

  • Use good quality meat that is red and fresh. Cuts of beef, like tenderloin, flank steak, or sirloin are better. Using good quality meat will make your dish so much better because it will be juicy and easy to chew.
  • After you’ve pressure cooked the beef and it’s nice and tender, move it to a wok for frying. A wok allows for better heat distribution, so your meat can brown nicely without cooking unevenly.
  • Instead of grabbing that bottle of pre-made lemon juice, squeeze some fresh lemons into your dish. Fresh lemon juice gives a brighter, more refreshing taste that really lifts the flavors of the beef.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of a good garnish! Half the flavour in this recipe comes from the garnish. Use fresh cilantro and sliced green chilies, ginger on top of your dish before serving. Remember, a good garnish makes the dish look fancy and taste even better!
  • When you’re frying the beef in the wok, keep the heat somewhere between medium and high. This will help cook everything without burning it. You want your beef to turn a nice golden color, not black!

Beef Stir Fry Made Easy: Flavorful Additions and Tips!

  • You can keep it traditional with Pakistani flavors, but if you want to give it an Indo-Chinese twist, just toss in some chopped onions and bell peppers (capsicum). This will make it a tasty beef and onion stir fry!
  • To make it taste authentically Indo-Chinese, you can add different sauces. You might use soy sauce for a salty flavor, worcestershire sauce if you like it sweet n salty, and maybe a bit of mustard sauce for some tanginess.
  • If you want a bit of crunch in your meal, sprinkle in some roasted cashews or peanuts. They’ll add a fun texture to your stir fry!
  • Add some crushed red pepper or chili flakes at the end of cooking. It’s nice that you adjust the spice level for your family if thet enjoy it hotter!
  • I mentioned using small diced beef chunks, which is great! But you can also use different cuts like thinly sliced beef or ribeye, just pick what you like best.

Easy, Delicious, and Perfect for Everyone!

  • What makes this beef stir fry recipe truly special is how easy and simple it is! With just a few ingredients, you can create a dish that tastes amazing. I guarantee you’ll find it hard to beat how tender and delicious this meat turns out!
  • Another great thing about this recipe is that it’s perfect for the whole family, no matter their age! My toddler loves it just as much as my father and I do. You can easily adjust the spices to suit everyone’s taste, so it’s kid-friendly while still being enjoyable for adults. This way, you also make sure everyone gets their protein in!
  • You can serve this beef stir fry as a side dish or make it the main event of your meal. It’s so versatile that it fits right into any setting, whether it’s a casual dinner or a family get together. It really is a win-win for everyone at the table!
